(Audubon, IA) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently authorized booster shots to now include all adults ages 18 years and older who received a primary mRNA COVID-19 vaccine series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) at least six months after the primary series. Prior to this authorization, eligibility had been limited to individuals ages 65 and older and those with underlying health conditions or who lived or worked in environments that placed them at high risk. Those who received a single shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are already eligible for a booster two months after their initial dose.

In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month, Audubon County Memorial Hospital and Clinics is committed to raising awareness of diabetes.

Audubon Family Health Clinic will offer the Pfizer pediatric vaccine to children ages 5 to 11 years old. The Pfizer pediatric vaccine clinic will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 5-7pm.

On Wednesday, November 3, 2021, Audubon County Memorial Hospital and Audubon County Public Health partnered together and held a community Moderna booster clinic.

Throughout the month of October, the radiology staff at Audubon County Memorial Hospital and Clinics raised awareness for breast cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most serious threats to women and one of the leading causes of death in women between the ages of 30 and 55.

As of October 21, 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend a booster dose of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine to people ages 65 and older and other vulnerable Americans.

Audubon County Memorial Hospital’s Life Fitness Center will remain closed to the general public due to the continued increase of COVID-19 numbers in Audubon County.  We will continue to authorize patients to use the Fitness Center if they are currently in rehabilitation treatment through the Rehab Services department or those that have had a recent hospitalization or change in condition with a healthcare provider therapy order.  For these authorized individuals, the fitness center can be used by appointment only between 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. No more than six people can be in the fitness center exercising at one time. To set up a time to use the fitness center, contact the Rehab Services department at 712-563-5314. All patients using the Fitness Center must agree to adhere to the rules of social distancing, stay six feet apart, use hand sanitizer before using the equipment, and clean the equipment off properly after each use. Patients using the fitness center will not be required to wear a mask while exercising but will be required to wear a mask in all other areas of the hospital. The fitness center doors will remain closed, so patients should enter through the main entrance to be screened.

Breast cancer is one of the most serious threats to women and one of the leading causes of death in women between the ages of 30 and 55. One out of every eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Join in the fight against breast cancer by making October the month to get screened.
